Solange Knowles Reveals She Was Diagnosed with Multiple Autoimmune Disorders | Just Jared: Celebrity News and Gossip | Entertainment

Solange Knowles is opening up about her battle with multiple autoimmune disorders.

On October 14, model and musician Shaun Ross shared a post on Instagram where he detailed his struggles with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).

In the comment section, Solange, 38, revealed that she also suffers from chronic condition as well as Sjögren's syndrome and mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS).

Keep reading to find out more..."Sending u so much love and strength Shaun and to all in the comments struggling with the debilitating, confusing, and lonely symptoms of POTS!" Solange wrote. "I got diagnosed with POTS, Sjogrens and Mcas in 2018 and really relate to not wanting your health to be your identity.

She then gave a shout-out to Dysautonomia International, a non-profit that "seeks to improve the lives of individuals living with autonomic nervous system disorders through research, physician education, public awareness and patient empowerment programs."

"The good folks at @dysautonomiaintl were really an incredible resource for me and I feel really grateful for the spoonie community for holding me down during my times of complete uncertainty!" Solange added. "Sending an abundance of love your way!"

According to the Mayo Clinic, POTS "affects the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary body functions such as heart rate and blood pressure. In postural tachycardia syndrome, the nerves that regulate blood flow are out of balance, so enough blood doesn't go to the right place at the right time."

Sjögren's is "a chronic (long-lasting) autoimmune disorder that happens when the immune system attacks the glands that make moisture in the eyes, mouth, and other parts of the body," according to the National Institutes of Health.

MCAS is a "condition in which the patient experiences repeated episodes of the symptoms of anaphylaxis - allergic symptoms such as hives, swelling, low blood pressure, difficulty breathing and severe diarrhea. High levels of mast cell mediators are released during those episodes," according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology.
