After 50 years together, a heart attack has a couple looking for new lease on life, healthier habits

Marsha and her husband, Jay, were looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this year when Jay had a heart attack.

The couple came to the Lowcountry Food Bank to help Jay as he makes several lifestyle changes to prevent future heart attacks, including eating healthier foods, which are often more expensive. His medical bills are overwhelming, and they are not able to cover all their monthly expenses.

Marsha worries about the stress affecting her husband's recovery and she wants nothing more this holiday season than to have enough nutritious food for them to eat so he can focus on feeling better.

Your donation to the Good Cheer Fund can help the Lowcountry Food Bank make the holidays brighter for Marsha and Jay.

Contributions to The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The nine charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are Operation Home, One80 Place, East Cooper Community Outreach, the Lowcountry Food Bank, The Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired, Coastal Catholic Charities and Landmarks for Families. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.

There is still time to give this year. Donations received by noon Dec. 23 will be listed in the paper on Christmas Day. Contributions received by noon Dec. 27 will be included in the final 2024 accounting on New Year's Eve. Donations received after that date will be applied toward the 2025 Good Cheer Fund.

Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, ℅ The Post and Courier, 148 Williman St., Charleston, SC 29403. Donations also can be made in person or online at www.goodcheerfund.com.
