Tow truck driver killed in Waukesha County hit-and-run identified

The tow truck driver who was hit by a minivan and later died on Dec. 24 in Waukesha County has now been identified, and a suspect is now in custody, according to the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office.The sheriff's office said the tow truck driver has been identified as Hussain Farhat, an employee of Yaffo Towing, which is out of Chicago, Illinois.Farhat was hit by a blue minivan on the shoulder of I-94 East near Sawyer Road in the village of Summit on Christmas Eve just before 6:45 p.m. while trying to load a disabled vehicle onto his truck. The driver of the minivan continued to drive east until exiting at Highway C. Farhat was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to the sheriff's office.On Christmas, the sheriff's office said they received an anonymous tip about the suspect's vehicle possibly at a home in the village of Wales. They then developed a profile of the suspect based on the tip. The suspect, a 39-year-old man, turned himself in at the sheriff's office during the investigation. His vehicle was eventually recovered from the home. The 39-year-old man is being booked at the Waukesha County Jail for a class D felony of hit-and-run and causing death, according to the sheriff's office."Our heartfelt condolences are with the family during this difficult time," said Lt. Nicholas Wenzel of the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office. "We would like to thank the public for their assistance and support with this investigation."The sheriff's office and Wisconsin State Patrol are still investigating the crash.
