FC Barcelona Battles Real Madrid And Liverpool For Georgian Pearl, Reports Mundo Deportivo

FC Barcelona is expected to do battle with eternal rival Real Madrid plus Liverpool when it comes to landing a Georgian pearl according to Mundo Deportivo, which cited anonymous sources.

Previous years have seen the two behemoths of El Clasico fight a proxy war in the transfer market when it comes to securing the services of the stars of tomorrow.

While Barca pulled off a major coup in convincing Neymar to join it from Santos in 2013, with the Brazilian recently revealing he was given a "blank check" by Madrid President Florentino Perez, Los Blancos have had the last laugh in recent years by snatching away Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo.

The summer of 2023 also saw Madrid get to Arda Guler first by paying more than his Fenerbahce release clause, and two summers later, it might try do the same with Saba Kharebashvilli.

A left back who currently plies his trade for Dinamo Tbilisi in his native Georgia, Kharebashvili already made headlines last year by becoming the youngest player to debut in a UEFA club competition.

In turn he broke the record previously held by Youssoufa Moukoko, and a rare one which Lamine Yamal missed out on smashing himself. Yet the defender might soon be able to call the La Masia prodigy a teammate in Catalonia.

That is because Barca has already set its sights on Kharebashvili according to Mundo Deportivo, which also noted other reports from the likes of Anfield Watch and AS on Liverpool and Real Madrid similarly being interested in him.

While he's currently rated at $841,000 (€800,000) by Transfermarkt, it is unknown how long Kharebashvili's contract runs at his current club.

As a non-EU player, he wouldn't be able to join a European heavyweight such as one of the three mentioned clubs until he becomes of adult age in September 2026.

By that time, he might be able to provide worthy competition to Alejandro Balde at Barca, though Gerard Martin is currently improving under Hansi Flick as shown in Sunday's 4-0 demolition of Real Sociedad where he also got on the scoresheet for the first time in his senior career.

As for Madrid, it looks set to miss out on Alphonso Davies but Kharebashvili could test the likes of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia for minutes if Perez successfully persuades him to sign for it.
