Nick Jonas draws online backlash for seemingly supporting Elon Musk: 'Delete this'

The pop singer and Jonas Brothers member sparked backlash on Tuesday after seemingly supporting controversial businessman Elon Musk in a recent social media post.

The Tesla CEO responded to a post on X highlighting the company's allegedly positive financial performance, despite previous news coverage that forecasted a decline for the automaker and clean energy brand. "Tesla is up 100% since Donald Trump won!" the Tuesday post read.

In response, Musk wrote, "My, how the tables have turned! 😂" and included a GIF of the Jonas Brothers picking up a table and rotating it inside a nondescript room.

Jonas shared Musk's virtual shoutout in an X post of his own, writing, "Take us to the Year 3000," a reference to the 2007 Jonas Brothers hit "Year 3000."

While the post earned praise from some users, the exchange with Musk did not sit well with most fans.

Musk, who also owns the social media platform X, has drawn controversy in recent months thanks to his support of President-elect Donald Trump's 2024 campaign, which culminated in Musk being appointed co-head of Trump's proposed Department of Government Efficiency. He contributed more than a quarter-billion dollars to campaign committees supporting Trump's presidential bid.

"Tweeting at Elon Musk is definitely a choice," X user @oceansjonas wrote.

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Jonas for comment.

Several users took to the comments section to criticize Jonas' post, speculating the pop star is a supporter of Musk and his political ally Trump.

"Is this a Trump post?! @priyankachopra get your man," @super_spooks wrote, referencing Jonas' wife, actress Priyanka Chopra.

While Jonas' political affiliation in the latest presidential election is unclear, he voiced support for President Joe Biden on social media following his 2020 victory.

Regardless of the "Jealous" singer's intent with Tuesday's post, fans were not pleased with the Musk shoutout.

"Delete this. now. this man is horrible and even if this was meant as just a joke, it's not funny," @ktcontratto wrote.

"Wait, you're showing your support for Elon right before coming to Broadway?! Oof man, really bad timing," @ItsJoshCanfield wrote (Jonas is set to star in a 2025 production of "The Last Five Years"). "The Broadway community, we are made up of everyone who Elon, along with his maga bestie, is trying to silence. I was in auditions to understudy you, so glad I didn't get it."

"He's gonna take us 3000 years into the past," @mrbombastic2401 wrote. "Just take a look at the people he supports, be better Nick."
