Gaza Protection Cluster Snapshot: Protection Monitoring | 6-18 December 2024 | Issue 8 - occupied Palestinian territory

This issue of the Protection Cluster Snapshot, extracted from the Protection Monitoring System (PMS) in the Gaza Strip, highlights the ongoing progress and expansion of the Emergency Protection Responders Model (EPRs), which was first introduced in July. Approximately 140 emergency protection responders have been trained to respond to urgent protection needs, disseminate information on available services and make critical referrals for immediate cases. A new process of training the trainers (ToT) has also been recently initiated targeting a broader number of protection specialists from dedicated partners to the Protection Cluster, so that the pool of EPRs can promptly expand across Gaza strip to respond to the expected surge in diverse and complex protection needs, in case of a ceasefire.

The PMS leverages a comprehensive network of these trained responders and partner organizations to collect critical data.

This is achieved through a mix of Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and semi-structured questionnaires used in Joint Protection Assessments.

Our PM system has facilitated so far a total of 1044 KIIs and 66 FGDs, providing vital insights into the protection landscape.

During the reporting period, 56 KIIs and 10 FGDs were conducted, covering 43 neighborhoods across 14 municipalities in the Gaza Strip's five governorates: North Gaza, Gaza, Middle Area, Khan Younis and Rafah.
