An excavator turned over on its side while demolishing the building at 17 S. Main St./198 Brook St. on Christmas Eve, closing Brook Street as crews worked to remove the heavy machinery, according to police.

A police cruiser blocked off one end of Brook Street, while a barrier blocked off another, closing the thoroughfare to vehicular traffic. The building, which was vacant, fronted South Main Street.

The excavator could be seen leaning precariously on its side, with it's extension partially over the street. Workers could be seen attempting to remove the excavator. It appeared the building had been substantially taken down.

No injuries were reported and no additional information was provided.
