In 1976, Lavin transitioned to television with her breakout role in ABC's Alice. Playing the titular starry-eyed diner waitress, she brought life to the series inspired by Martin Scorsese's film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. The sitcom ran for nine seasons, producing 202 episodes and earning Lavin two Golden Globe awards and an Emmy nomination.
Producers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, who worked with Lavin on Hulu's Mid-Century Modern, expressed their grief in a heartfelt statement. "Linda was a magnificent actress, singer, and a heat-seeking missile with a joke," they said. "More importantly, she was a beautiful soul -- deep, joyful, and generous. The entire staff and crew will miss her beyond measure."
