Boys Wrestling: Duemmel, Knollmeyer take titles for Helias | Jefferson City News-Tribune

BRANSON -- The Helias Crusaders had bookend individual champions Saturday at the Branson Invitational.

Daemen Duemmel at 106 pounds and Zyan Knollmeyer at 285 claimed crowns for the Crusaders.

Duemmel finished 5-0, getting bonus points in all of his matches. He won his first two matches by first-period falls, then won by technical fall in the first period in the quarterfinals. Duemmel then won by major decision in the semifinals before posting a 14-3 major decision against Tristan Ace of Rolla in the title match.

Knollmeyer also was 5-0 on Saturday. He won his first three matches by fall. He then won by decision in his first bracket match before posting an 8-1 victory against Colby Cooks of Springdale, Ark., in the title match.

Alex Wieberg at 126, Aleksandr Careaga at 157 and Eli Homan at 165 all finished third in their respective weights. Wieberg and Careaga both finished 4-1, while Homan was 3-1.

Wieberg won by fall, by technical fall and by decision to advance to the championship bracket. After losing by technical fall, Wieberg was a 6-3 winner against Camdon Kunkel of Carl Junction in the third-place match.

Careaga posted three wins by fall to advance to the championship bracket. He lost 14-6 in the semifinals before posting a first-period fall against Aaron Dillingham of Carl Junction in the third place match.

Careaga picked up his 100th career win Saturday.

Homan won by fall and by technical fall to get into the championship bracket. He lost 10-3 in the semifinals before winning by first-period fall against Riley James of Cassville in the third-place match.

Greg Cizin was fourth at 113. He lost his first match by technical fall before winning three times by fall. He lost by fall to Kyllian Ace of Rolla in the third-place match.

Brady Fann was fifth at 190, going 2-1 in pool action. He then won by fall before winning by injury default against Helias teammate Jackson Sherlock in the fifth-place match. Sherlock was 3-2, winning twice by fall and once by major decision.

Brock LePage was fifth at 215. He opened by going 2-1, then lost by fall before winning

by a 6-3 decision against Brody Sitze of Union in the fifth-place match.

Ben Holee finished seventh at 150, going 3-2. Dugan Williams was 10th at 175 with a 2-3 record. Klein Bonnot was 11th with a 2-3 record at 132. Ayden Duncan (0-5) at 120 and Hayden Reinsch (1-4) at 138 finished 12th. Broden Prenger (0-3) was 13th at 144.

Helias finished third with 150.5 points in the 15-team event. Ozark was first with 204, with Hillsboro taking second with 197.5.

Helias is back in action Wednesday at Jefferson City. Action will begin at 6 p.m.
