TEMPLE, Texas (FOX 44) - Temple Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting which left one officer injured.
An officer was in the 100 block of N 11th Street around 3:12 p.m. Wednesday when he heard gunshots. The officer approached where the gunshots may have come from and discovered a disturbance between two individuals.
A bystander attempted to intervene with the disturbance, and the suspect allegedly shot at him. The officer attempted to detain the individual, but the individual started to flee in his car.
Police say while attempting to flee, the officer was dragged by the vehicle. The suspect then fled in the vehicle and crashed his car near Wendland Road and Airport Road, got out of the vehicle and started to run into a wooded area.
Officers are currently canvassing the area in an attempt to find the suspect. One officer has been transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The bystander was also transported to the hospital with minimal injuries.
Police say Kennedy-Powell Elementary School was put on a secure out of an abundance of caution. There is extensive police presence near Wendland Road and Industrial Boulevard. P{eople are encouraged to avoid the area.
