Downtown holiday party, tree-lighting return Saturday

HIGH POINT -- The fourth annual High Point Holiday Party will bring the holiday spirit to downtown High Point this weekend.

The festivities, hosted by Furnitureland Rotary Club, will be held Saturday from 3 to 7 p.m., culminating with the lighting of the city's 44-foot-tall Christmas tree -- billed as the Triad's tallest public Christmas tree -- and a holiday fireworks show.

"Furnitureland Rotary is so excited about this year's party," said Joe Hellinger, event coordinator for the club. "We look forward to seeing the community come together again to kick off the holiday season."

One phase of the party has already started -- a citywide scavenger hunt began on Nov. 4. The first 100 participants to complete the scavenger hunt will receive a complimentary High Point Holiday Party shirt and will be entered into a raffle with over $3,500 in prizes. The hunt highlights 27 locally owned retailers in High Point and encourages people to shop local and support locally owned businesses this holiday season.

From 3 to 7 p.m., the Smithrock Roofing Holiday Market & Craft Bazaar, featuring vendors and food trucks, will be at the intersection of Elm and Church streets and the Truist Point concourse.

There will be a trolley ride, bounce houses for kids of all ages, photos with Santa Claus, great photo opportunities, face-painting, complimentary hot cocoa and s'mores, and a special holiday treat for the first 500 kids to visit the Information Tent. All kid zone activities, photo ops and treats are complimentary. There is a limited supply of hot cocoa and s'mores, so arrive early.

The tree-lighting ceremony, featuring 11 local performers, will begin at 3:40 p.m. and will conclude with the lighting of the tree and a fireworks display.
