Update: Extreme cold warning issued for Western Wisconsin until Tuesday midday

On Tuesday at 12:03 a.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated extreme cold warning in effect until noon. The warning is for Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Juneau, Adams, Vernon, Crawford, Richland and Grant counties.

The NWS comments, "Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 to 45 below expected."

"Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures," explains the NWS. "Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Keep pets indoors as much as possible."
