AMSTERDAM -- At least one person was displaced and two firefighters suffered minor slip-and-fall injuries following a fire on Reid Street on Monday night, according to Amsterdam Fire Chief Anthony Agresta.
The occupant of 18 Reid St. was just returning home when they noticed a fire in one of the apartments and called 911 around 7:44 p.m.
Arriving fire crews discovered smoke coming from the side of the building. Ten off-duty firefighters were called to the scene to provide additional assistance.
Attack crews entered the building where they were able to locate the main body of the fire and extinguish it, Agresta said.
Weather conditions contributed to slip-and-fall injuries suffered by two firefighters during the operation amidst high winds and lake-effect snow squalls on Monday.
It was not immediately clear if the injuries would lead to any temporary absences. One of the individuals was expected to undergo an evaluation on Tuesday.
Fire damage was limited to one apartment. Crews cleared the scene around 11:14 p.m.
It's possible both units sustained smoke and water damage, but the two-family home is considered salvageable, Agresta said.
At least one individual was temporarily displaced by the fire. Immediate emergency aid was provided by volunteers from the Northeastern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation as of Tuesday.
The Amsterdam Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Amsterdam Police Department, Amsterdam Department of Public Works, Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Montgomery County EMS.
