As announced on Anthropic's X account (formerly Twitter), Claude AI can now integrate directly with Google Docs and read your files. The next time someone shares a dense document, you can hand it over to Claude AI and ask it to sum up its contents.

Getting started with this new integration is really easy. Hover over the paperclip icon at the bottom left, click on the Google Drive logo that appears, then authenticate your Google account with Claude.

Once you've linked your account, clicking the Google Drive logo will show your most recent Google Docs, alongside a search bar for finding a specific document. Send your chosen document over, and Claude will let you ask questions about its contents.

Before you get started, there are a few things to consider. First, it's only available to Claude Pro and Claude for Work subscribers. Second, Claude only reads the text in a Google Doc; it won't sum up any images in the document.

As such, it may be worth opening the document in another tab so you can refer to any pictures the author added. Other than that, it should be an easy way to break down long documents quickly.

If you're not a paid member but you're considering subscribing to unlock this feature, be sure to check out what Claude Pro is and how it compares to ChatGPT Plus.
