Driver pleads not guilty to charges in deadly Oconto County drugged driving crash

OCONTO (WLUK) - Zackery Wimber pleaded not guilty Thursday in connection with an alleged drugged driving crash which killed one person.

Wimber, 20, faces ten counts, including homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle for the Sept. 8 crash in Mountain. A 51-year-old woman died as a result of the crash.

No trial date was set. He returns to court Feb. 13 for a pre-trial conference, court records show.

According to the criminal complaint, first responders were called to a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 32 near Sparky's Road at 5:31 p.m.

Wimber allegedly swerved into the path of another vehicle. There were three people in that car, one of whom died as a result of the crash.

One witness estimated Wimber was travelling about 70 mph.

Other witnesses who talked to Wimber said he had items in the vehicle he couldn't be caught with and tried to dispose of. Police located a metal box, which had heroin and cocaine inside.

Wimber told police he had used heroin before the crash.

"While standing next to Zackery and the medical staff was providing him medical attention, I overheard Zackery say "There's a lot of drugs in my system." Medical staff asked Zackery how much. Zackery replied by saying "You already know about the heroin." Medical staff asked what else he consumed and he admitted to "crack cocaine."," the complaint states.
