3 Vacaville cross country teams, 1 individual advance to state meet

VACAVILLE -- Vacaville High School qualified its boys and girls cross country teams for the upcoming state meet, while the girls team and one runner from the boys squad will represent Vacaville Christian after strong finishes Saturday at the Sac-Joaquin Section finals in Folsom.

The Vacaville boys were second in Division II with 64 points, finishing behind only Jesuit (24). Jackson Stream led the way with a second-place finish on the 3-mile course at Willow Park in a time of 15 minutes, 44 seconds.

Cooper Stream (7th, 16:03.6), Steven Gonzalez (14th, 16:25.2), Ty Hundley (19th, 16:38.6), William Wurzbach (22nd, 16:41.4), Conner Smith (23rd, 16:46.5) and Gunner Lyon (33rd, 17:03.7) made up the rest of the Bulldogs' showing. The top four teams advanced to state.

The Vacaville girls were third behind first-place Whitney and second-place Granite Bay. Khloe Delatorre finished second overall (18:38.9). The rest of the Lady Bulldogs included Makayla Galvan (10th, 19:21.8), Gisselle Swartz (23rd, 20:13.4), Lucia Rodriguez (32nd, 20:53.3), Riley Gagnon (50th, 22:07.8) and Brianna Rowlett (66th, 24:02.6). The top four teams moved on.

Vacaville Christian's girls won the Division V title. Elena Vizcay set the pace and finished first in a time of 19:50. The rest of the Falcons included Mia Farias (sixth, 21:44.4), Josie Krulick (seventh, 21:47.6), Layla Heard (11th, 22:50.5), Zaya Aldaronda (19th, 23:35.5), Cambria Gray (21st, 23:471) and Cate Ferreira (22nd, 24:25.5).The top two teams moved on.

Maverick Adam of the Vacaville Christian boys advanced to state after finishing fourth (12:39.0) in the Division V boys race. The Vacaville Christian boys were fourth as a team and will not move on. The rest of the Falcons include Apollo Adam (14th, 18:30.5), Elijah Bates (19th, 19:03.6), Griffin McGrath (24th, 19:39.0), William Campbell (27th, 19:51.4), Taiyo Douglas (47th, 20:26.6) and Gordon Freitas (66th, 21:59.9).

The Buckingham girls were fifth in Division V with Cait Pedersen (14th, 22:59.7), Veronica Chou (16th, 23:15.1), Evelyn Tibbetts (25th, 25:36.8), Laila McGovern (29th, 26:38.1), Kezia Pierce (30th, 27:09.0), Sierra Collins (31st, 27:33.0) and Andrea Salinas (50th, 31:49.7).

The Buckingham boys were also fifth in Division V with Jacob Castillo (18th, 19:06.5), Diego Rodriguez (19th, 19:10.0), Jonathan Jake Cu (33rd, 20:02.9), Rian Spradlin (37th, 20:20.4), Kyle Lang (49th, 20:58.5), Anthony Hernandez (51st, 21:08.8) and Jesse Brown (62nd, 22:50.9).

The Rodriguez boys finished eighth in Division I with Corey Liew (17th, 16:49.2), Porter Soughayer (37th, 17:37.0), Logan McKemie (39th, 17:42.9), Josh Hughes (57th, 19:13.6), Damien Villapando (63rd, 19:53.8), Christian Brestak (65th, 20:56.10 and Jacob Allison (67th, 21:12.8).

Will C. Wood's Alex Pelayo was 24th (17:16.2) in the Division III boys competition and teammate Luca Troche Jones was 36th (17:48.4). Vanden's Julian Gonzalez finished 40th (17:52.8) in Division III.
