At least 6 inches of snow is possible in parts of Pennsylvania, including the Pocono Mountains in northeast part of the state, as a winter storm brews in the region through Friday.
Up to a foot of snow will reach the high-elevated parts of southwest Pennsylvania through Saturday morning, as well as mountains in West Virginia and Maryland, according to the National Weather Service.
Pennsylvania is among the set of states in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic grappling with winter weather Thursday such as torrential downpours and up to a foot of snow in higher elevations. Winter weather advisories are in effect for parts of New York, West Virginia, western Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio and several others.
Snow in the forecast: Cold temps, winter storm warnings coming for Northeast
In multiple Northeast states, daily high temperatures have plunged to the 50s and 40s Thursday, down from the 60s and 70s on Wednesday. Some areas are under winter storm warnings and freeze watches going into the weekend. Meanwhile some coastal areas in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic are expected to face temperatures in the 30s and 40s through Saturday, accompanied by precipitation of around an inch, the weather service reported.
Forecasters said rain and snow showers are expected to continue through Thursday afternoon in the higher elevated areas east of Pittsburgh and Morgantown, West Virginia.

A weak tornado struck Pittsburgh Wednesday night, the weather service confirmed. The EF0-level tornado hit the city's Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood.
It marked the first November tornado to strike in southwestern Pennsylvania since 2017, according to KDKA-TV Meteorologist Ray Petelin. A total of four have occured during the month of November.
During the last active tornado season in May, a tornado struck the Pittsburgh city limits for the first time since 1998, CBS News reported.
