New Orleans residents step up to donate blood after Bourbon Street attack

In the wake of the Bourbon Street attack that claimed 15 lives, New Orleans residents are stepping up to donate blood for the injured.

A blood drive is being held today and tomorrow to support the more than 30 victims injured.

The drive is taking place at the New Orleans Blood Center, located at 2609 Canal St., and will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time (11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET) today and tomorrow.

The New Orleans Blood Center announced that the drive is intended to "support blood replacement and medical care for victims suffering incident-related injuries."

Security is stationed at parking and entrance areas on Iberville Street to ensure safety.

The public is encouraged to donate blood to aid in the ongoing recovery efforts for the injured. The city of New Orleans thanked the community for their support during this difficult time.
